Laughing Yoga Class
August 6 @ 7:00 pm - 8:15 pmDonation
Let’s gather at The Atrium for a laughing yoga class. To laugh for no reason, get an easy aerobic work-out, meet new people, reduce stress and anxiety, add to add more joy and sparkle while enhancing our mental and physical well-being. Unify our world through laughter!
This is not your bendy, stretchy yoga, so no mats, poses or fitness level are required. Please wear comfortable clothing and a smile! Laughter Yoga was founded in 1995 by Dr. Madan Kataria, a medical doctor in India who started the first laughter club with only five people in a local park in Mumbai, India. This interactive form of yoga for all ages and abilities has inspired over 7000 laughter clubs in over 100 countries. Instructor, Linda Kalb Hamm, founder of Laughing My Angst Off Laughter Yoga, is a Certified Laughter Leader and Teacher, trained at Dr.Kataria’s Laughter Yoga International School of Laughter Yoga. She is dedicated to spreading the practice of Laughter Yoga EVERYWHERE to promote peace within ourselves and our world.
Even though we all “think” we know how to laugh, the practice of Laughter Yoga teaches us how to “laugh for no reason,” without relying on jokes or humor or our critical mind. We learn to let our body and our right brain lead us through playful, child-like exercises so that we can chuckle long enough to reap the health, emotional and social benefits of spontaneous laughter. But not only do we need to learn this new way to laugh, which emphasizes yogic breathing, acupressure clapping, and hearty belly bursting guffaws … we also need to practice uninterrupted laughter for at least 15 minutes to reap the benefits.
Our hour-long laughter sessions begin with gentle stretching, clapping and chanting warm-ups as well as yogic breathing exercises. Next, we focus on our “laughter exercises” which use playful acting and visualization methods to keep us laughing and making eye contact with one another. We wind down with our “laughter meditation” which allows us to enjoy the spontaneous flow of laughter we have created in our group. We end with guided relaxation exercises and affirmations.
